Emergencies

True orthodontic emergencies are rare. However, there are minor problems that can occur, many of which can be remedied at home. If not, we are always available to help with any problems that may come up.

Part of Braces

Problem:

Loose Band or Bracket

Home Solution:

If a band or bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If is uncomfortable, place wax on it. If it comes out completely, wrap the band or bracket in a tissue and call us during regular hours.

Problem:

Poking Wire

Home Solution:

Try to push the wire toward the teeth/gums with a clean pencil eraser. If possible put wax on it.

Problem:

Home Solution:

Not an emergency, call during regular office hours.

Problem:

Soreness

Home Solution:

Tylenol or Ibuprofen are effective at reducing orthodontic soreness. But use at your own (or parent’s) discretion.
